WHAT PAST GUEST ARTISTS SAY

Jon Lehrer
Associate Director
Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago

The hardest part about teaching at the UNLV dance department is leaving. Every time I go to UNLV to teach and choreograph, I find myself wanting to stay longer and longer. Of course it is very common for a teacher to become attached to the students, but at UNLV it is also the faculty and department as a whole that keeps me coming back. The students are wonderful - very disciplined, respectful, eager, and talented - and that is a direct reflection on the faculty and staff at the UNLV dance department. I teach and choreograph at many Universities around the country, and UNLV has one of the most well rounded dance departments there is. The faculty is educated, experienced in the professional realm, and fully dedicated to giving the students the necessary tools to become a highly successful professional dancer. They give equal attention and respect to all forms of dance, and provide the students with an education that covers everything from dance history to pedagogy, thus fostering an atmosphere that allows the students to thrive. When I am at UNLV, I feel free to utilize all my talents and experiences to offer the students the most I can possibly give them. The UNLV dance department is one place I hope to continue teaching at for many years to come.
