SCHOLARSHIPS
The UNLV Department of Dance offers several scholarships to declared dance majors. A student with a double major must declare dance as their first major in order to be eligible for awards. Scholarships in the Deparment of Dance are awarded each semester for the upcoming term.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
MATERIALS:
- Candidate must fill out the attached application form.
- Candidate must write a letter of intent.
- Candidate is required to submit two letters of recommendation from professional sources outside the Department of Dance, i. e., counselors, teachers, mentors, etc.
- Freshmen, new dance majors and transfer students must submit a video clearly showing the candidates performance ability or perform a 2 - 3 minute solo in front of a faculty panel.
- Candidate must present a current transcript if one is not currently on file in the Dance Arts Office.
- AUDITION/VIDEO: A scholarship audition is scheduled for the last day of classes of the previous semester. On this day, students are asked to present a short solo demonstrating their technical dance abilities. For incoming Freshmen or Transfer students a VHS Videotape or DVD is accepted in leu of attendance of this audition. We suggest this video include footage of you dancing in class and performance. Often students include dance sequences from class and perhaps a short solo. If group work is included It is important that we are able to distinguish you in the video . We ask that all videos be limited to 10 minutes. (Please note this video does not need to be fancy or professionally done. THE NEXT SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION IS December 7, 2007. PLEASE CALL THE DEPARTMENT FOR EXACT TIMES AND LOCATIONS.
- Current Dance Majors Jury Exams will be accepted in place of the scholarship audition. Current dance majors must however fill out a scholarship form to be reconsidered for award.
RECIPIENT RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recipients must maintain the GPA required for the scholarship.
- Recipients must be involved in work that culminates in a formal performance.
- Recipients are expected to represent the Dance Arts Department by demonstrating respect and professionalism in their academic endeavors.
- Recipients will be assigned responsibilities within the Dance Arts Department to be eligible for awards.
SCHOLARSHIPS
GRANT - IN - AID
- Must fill out a Grant-In-Aid Scholarship application.
- Must maintain an overall grade point average of 2.0.
- Allocated for: Foreign students, students who contribute to university programs in activities, and students with outstanding scholarship attainment.
KENNETH AND MARY ALICE DeVOS FINE ARTS
- Demonstrated talent plus aptitude for college success.
- Some preference accorded to disadvantaged minority students.
- Freshmen, continuing UNLV students , and transfer students.
- Minimum credit load of 12 credit hours per semester.
- Minimum 2.75 GPA requirement.
RONNIE GREENBLAAT MEMORIAL DANCE
- Minimum credit load of 9 credit hours per semester.
- Minimum 2.75 GPA requirement.
- Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students eligible.
- Potential in teaching and performance.
- Modern emphasis or preparation for modern dance education.
- No restrictions in residency.
GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND - GSF
- Freshmen, new dance majors or transfer students must maintain a 2.3 GPA in general education and a 3.0 in their major within the first year.
- Sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students must maintain a 2.3 GPA in general education and a 3.5 in their major.
- Minimum of 12 credits required for undergraduates and 9 for graduates.
- Awarded on academic merit, financial need and performance potential.
DEADLINES and AWARD DATES
The Scholarship committee will meet at the end of the previous semester to determine awards. For SPRING 2008, Scholarship materials must be submitted to the Deparment of Dance by December 1, 2007.

THE AWARDS ARE PRESENTED through personal contact by telephone and an official letter from the chair of the department and Scholarship Committee.
